15 Thoughts During My First Month of College (5)

3. “What’s ‘Sleep’?” This word is no longer in my vocabulary. There is no catching up. There is no accomplishing a healthy amount of it. Be warned, you will never have enough (hence Starbucks). No worries though, one of the perks of college is how little people will care when you walk into class only to begin snoring in the back row.

2. “I Know We Jus Met, But You’re My New Best Friend.” The fact that you’re new and don’t know anyone, the first person who says they like Harry Potter as much as you do will seem like they’re going to be your new best friend. Here’s a hint: they probably won’t be. That’s not a bad thing, you will find friends. They just probably won’t end up being the girl you met in the line for a free t-shirt during welcome week.

  1. “I Don’t Got This.” It’s funny how college, as funny and crazy and exciting it is, can also be sad and hard and honestly depressing. College is hard. Very hard. Prepare yourself, because you could find yourself crumbling and spiraling out of control. But, just know, it will be okay. It is okay to not be okay, and it is perfectly fine to ask for help. Your college should have study aids, tutors, health services, and counseling. Take advantage of these things. They could end up being your lifelines, and that is perfectly fine. Don’t try to do everything on your own and act as if you’re fine. Believe me, help is the greatest thing you could ask for.
