Yes, athletics definitely bring in money when the families and friends of student players come in to support a team. But you’re also bleeding money to maintain stadiums and fields and provide equipment and transportation for each game. Well, guess what? The families and friends of arts student ALSO financially support programs when they come to see a show or concert. And the expenses of arts clubs are often much less – there’s not as much transportation to compete with other schools, auditoriums don’t need the same level of maintenance as giant fields, and many clubs can repurpose old materials for their supplies. Just look at the cost of a Hamilton ticket and tell me the arts don’t have the ability to bring in some serious dough…
5. Communication is Key
What better way to hone your communication skills than by delivering a monologue from Hamlet onstage or translating a personal experience into a piece of art, open for viewing and interpretation? Getting involved with art in one form or another is one of the easiest way to practice communicating with an audience and offers amazing experience that can help students later on in life, whether it be writing an essay for college admittance or delivering a presentation at work.
