Hold onto your innocence for as long as you can.

You’re only innocent for, at most, 10-12 short years before you learn of the word’s corruption and are forced to make decisions that will hurt to make. Everyone will try to take that from you, but hold onto it until your knuckles turn white. Innocence is one of the purest things to have before the world pollutes your mind and steals it away from you.

You won’t remember every fight you had with every temporary friend in your life.

Stop crying over every negative word people say to you. People filled with only pessimistic things to say about you aren’t friends anyways, and you won’t miss them once they’re gone. It feels like heartbreak now as you sit alone in your room wondering what you could have possibly done to tarnish your friendship, but not everything is your fault. Give other people credit where credit is due. These people aren’t going to be memorable to you anyway.

That’s what most people are- temporary.

Especially between the ages of 16-22, so many people will walk in and out of your life. It’s not because they weren’t worthy of staying or because they’ve replaced you with something better, but it’s because you just don’t need each other anymore. You probably won’t talk to that girl you became good friends with in your freshman year English Lit class after the class is through, and that’s fine. Neither of you need each other’s notes or homework help anymore. That friend who you swore you would grow old with in the nursing home moved away to college, as did you, and things change.

School is all fun and games before graduation, but just wait.

You haven’t studied a day in your life, I’m sure of it, but get ready because you will be very soon. Middle school and high school courses come easy to you, but don’t get cocky. College is so much different and if you don’t crack open those books soon, you’ll end up back at home.
