20 Things To Come To Terms With By Age 20 (4)

5. Do not lower your standards for anyone. There was a reason you made them so high in the first place.

Set your standards high enough to keep the people away that won’t love you how you want to be loved. Having high standards doesn’t always mean you’re picky, it just means that you value yourself enough to know what you deserve.

4.  You are more than capable enough of killing that spider. It will not, and cannot, kill you.

As a person who is afraid of the tiniest of creatures, this is something I’m still working on coming to terms with. I screech at the bare sight of a spider or insect that is in any place other than outside. Keep in mind that they are about the size of your pinky nail and that you are so many times bigger than them that even if they tried, they couldn’t do any sort of damage to you. Kill those pesky things.

3. Life is incredibly unfair.

You deserved those extra five points on your quiz that your professor won’t allow you to have back. You put your everything into someone who walked away. Taxes cut your paycheck practically in half. Life may not always seem fair, but we have to get used to it. It sucks, but we have to come to terms with it sooner rather than later.

2. If someone compliments you, they most likely mean it. Thank them and stop deflecting.

Oftentimes, when people compliment us, we’re quick to negate their thought. “Oh, no, this shirt? It’s old. I’ve been meaning to throw it away,” or, “You’re crazy! My hair is a disaster!” People wouldn’t compliment you if they meant the opposite; so, smile, thank them, and start believing in what they’re telling you.

1. Most importantly, you need to take care of yourself first.

As I’ve said before, make yourself your main priority. It isn’t selfish; in the end we are all striving to be the happiest and best people that we can be. You’ve only got one life so live it the way you want to and don’t let anyone hold you back from being great. Self-love and acceptance is key.
