17. What other extra amenities does each place offer?

A sweet fitness center and complimentary tanning are just little bonuses that the management hopes will nudge you to sign the lease.  Nevertheless, it can’t hurt to see what luxuries you’ll enjoy if you decide to live in a certain place.

18. What kind of deposit does the management require when you sign the lease?

If they ask for your first and last month’s rent and a hefty security deposit, that’s a lot of money to put down at once.  Can you afford that much?

19. How close is the apartment to local shopping and nightlife?

You may not like it if your apartment feels totally removed from all the fun things your town has to offer.

20. What do the neighbors look like?

Do you see a lot of young parents and little kids hanging around?  Be careful.  They may be more likely to call in noise complaints on you and your friends.  If you like a quieter neighborhood though, keep your eyes open for elderly people around the complex.  Make a note of these things, along with everything else.
