An Open Letter To Girls Who Think They Need Makeup to Be Beautiful

Dear Ladies,

Makeup is a very fun and expensive tool to mark your already beautiful canvas. To be honest, a smile is the best kind of makeup a girl can wear. Who has the time to contour every morning before work or class and still have time left over to brush your hair? Not me. Makeup is a cool tool, but it’s not a necessary tool to our survival as women.

Makeup has been around for such a long time, but there have been so many iconic figures who were or are known for their natural beauty when not wearing makeup. Examples include: Cleopatra, Angelina Jolie, Farah Faucet, and Zooey Deschanel.

The fact that ladies look so hard for makeup that makes them look natural is absurd. Instead of trying to fake everyone out, try this amazing thing called natural beauty and leave your face untouched by those harsh, animal-tested chemicals.

If you need a little boost to go all natural, here’s some help. More than 100 million animals suffer and die in the US each year in cruel cosmetic and chemical tests, according to the People for Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA). So while you’re deciding on what color to wear on your eyelids, a rabbit could be dying from that same product that you now just put on your eyes. How guilty do you feel? Because I feel like absolute and utter crap.

There are, of course, the brands that do not perform animal testing. Kudos for them, but animal testing isn’t the only reason you should ween off of the makeup. The chemicals that seep through your pores causes irritation, breakouts, and some cases of acne that do not go away easily. That nasty blackhead on your forehead? Probably from that new mousse foundation you’re using.

What’s the point of makeup if the after effect is that you get more pimples and zits and make your skin unhealthy? Makeup is supposed to cover up that kind of stuff, but it isn’t really realized that unhealthy skin and makeup go hand in hand and there’s no way of covering up. You’re actually making it worse.

Imagine you have a pimple on your chin and try to cover it up with foundation, it works for a few hours and hides the pimple that was gawking at you in the mirror this morning, but like all makeup, it starts to wear off and your pimple is darker, bigger, and more obvious. Makeup has the ability to infect and penetrate you through the pores that get clogged up by unnecessary chemicals.

I’m not trying to scare you away from using makeup by any means, but maybe placing a limit on what you put on your face isn’t such a bad idea. A lot of men actually like women in their natural skin and prefer to see them that way, untouched.

Did you know that the 15-30 minutes you spend every morning putting on makeup could be used for sleeping? Imagine a world where a woman can just comb a brush through her hair, glance at herself in the mirror, pluck an eyebrow hair then be out the door. But women these days don’t value their true worth at their full potential because society tells us that makeup is needed to make you look beautiful.

Society is WRONG about needing makeup to look beautiful. It’s just like the magazines trying to slim down the models in the photos because being slim is the only acceptable body type in the modern day society. Well society, I got news for you… You’re wrong and you suck. As long as you feel comfortable in your own skin, you’re fine.

If makeup makes you feel beautiful, good for you. Be happy that you found what makes you smile at yourself in the mirror. However, if being all natural catches your attention and you find it freeing to have your face breathe, that’s okay too.

YOU don’t need makeup to make you look beautiful.

YOU already are the fairest of them all.
