Smart Bottles (2)

That’s not all, though.  Once activated, the smart bottle has the ability to send “relevant, personalized messages” to consumers.  For example, if someone’s walking by a smart bottle of Johnnie Walker in the liquor store, the bottle might just send them a text to try and entice them into buying.  Creepy, but no creepier than a random drunk text, I suppose.  Once the smart bottle’s seal has been broken, it will start texting you recommendations for cocktails and serving suggestions too.

Diageo, the company that created this smart bottle technology wants consumers to start thinking of their liquor bottles as more than just a “container for liquid.”  Others are saying it’s just a cheap gimmick.  Who says it can’t be both?

I know you’re excited to get your Johnnie Walker Blue Label smart bottle, but the bad news it, it won’t be hitting a liquor store shelf near you for about three years.  Plenty of time for other liquor companies to start generating their own prototypes, though…
