The 8 Things You Should Make Sure To Leave In 2015 (2)

4) Using likes on social media as a sense of fulfillment.  You are so much more than the amounts of likes on your photo on instagram.  There is a dangerous amount of weight that has been placed on this concept in the past year or so.  Leave it behind.  Find fulfillment in your friends, family, work, pets, anything except how many people favorited your latest tweet.

3) In fact, can we please leave the entire phone obsession behind?  If you go out to dinner with your friends or family leave your phone in your bag.  Why are you even bothering going to a concert if you are just going to videotape the whole thing anyway?  Why is liking his or her post on social media an okay form of flirting?  Honestly, none of that is really okay.  We have created a disconnect that needs to be left behind because it is not a positive thing…it does not deserve to be a part of the new year.

2) Any and all forms of nonacceptance.  PSA: Just because you said “not to be racist” before your sentence doesn’t mean what followed wasn’t blatantly racist.  There is literally nothing wrong with someone being different than you.  Not everyone has the same color of skin, the same religion, the same family dynamic, the same socio-economic background, or same political view as you.  Please explain to me the issue with that?  As long as nobody is hurting anyone else there is no problem with someone being different than you.  Leave your hatred in the past, it is not welcome in the new year.

1) Whatever you don’t like.  Now this may sound simple and straightforward but think back to what you told yourself you were leaving behind last year.  Did you actually do it?  Make this upcoming year the year that you become everything you’ve ever wanted to be.  Sometimes there are obstacles that make this difficult but you can do it.  It could be as simple as clearing out your room or home and donating everything you don’t care for anymore.  It could be more complicated and you can leave behind a nasty habit that you have been trying so hard to break.  It could be really anything that makes you unhappy, melancholy, or a lesser version of the amazing person we both know you are.  So start thinking because before you know it you’ll be counting down from 10 to welcome in the new year.
