4. A Diverse Student Body
Yes, yes, yes, I know. “My college is diverse, too, just look at our demographics!” But at Emerson, we not only have cultural and ethnic diversity, but an unparalleled range of personalities and characters in our student body. Whether you’re a outspoken woman of color looking to join the creative group Flawless Brown, an edgy music buff looking to bond over that new vinyl, or a recluse who only puts on pants for the walk to Boloco, you’re bound to find like-minded students ready to support you in your goals and passions (although my bank account certainly regrets stumbling across so many like-minded Dunkin Donuts fans…)
3. Your Professor Is More Than Just a Pretty Face
Not to say that they aren’t pretty darn attractive as well (…she said totally not sucking up for a better grade). But in order to teach at Emerson, professors have to stay active in their fields – a.k.a. if they’re making you edit twelve short stories for your publishing class over the weekend, you can comfort yourself with the knowledge that they’ll be trapped over Christmas break in a local publishing house managing hella side work of their own. Here at Emerson, I know my teachers are totally up to date on industry standards and can offer me viable job and internship connections.
2. Size Really Does Matter
Don’t kid yourself, size makes a HUGE difference. With just under 3,500 undergraduates, classes at Emerson are intimately small, meaning muchos face time with professors and a significantly smaller chance of ending up in class after class of new faces and boring introductions. Almost every teacher will get to know you by name and have the office hours to squeeze you in anytime you get hit by that writer’s block on a big project. Of course, it does make avoiding anyone you hate* on campus more difficult, but all the drama certainly helps get those creative juices flowing!
*As if you could hate anyone in this place – refer back to #7 since you clearly need to be reminded of how kickass our student body is!
1 . Nothing Can Beat That EC Spirit
Of all the things I love about being a student at Emerson, the EC Lion spirit stands out from the crowd. Everywhere you turn, there’s an Emerson hoodie or a smiling campus guide or a friendly SECURITAS officer ready to help you with the ultimate decision: Peanut Butter Cup ice cream or The Tonight Dough? Students, faculty, alumni, and staff all come together to make this campus one of love and one of light. Everyone here may be a bit funny, but if you think for a minute that this isn’t the greatest college in Boston, the joke’s on YOU.
