10 Ways To Get Yourself Ready For The Finals Crunch Time

Depending on where you go to school, you’ve probably got a few weeks before final exams start, so maybe you don’t think it’s time to panic quite yet.  And I suppose that is true.  You don’t need to panic yet, but you do need to start preparing.

This is the time to start getting ready, so that way when when crunch time does roll around, you’ve got everything you need to be successful and ace those tests.  So, start doing some of these things right now.  Yes, right now.

10. Leave your social calendar pretty blank.

Between the end of March Madness and the beginning of summer break, it seems like there’s no shortage of bar specials, friends hosting insane parties, and fun things to do outdoors now that the weather is nice.  Even if it’s painful to miss out on some of these outings, you need to schedule plenty of time for staying in, studying, and going to bed at a reasonable hour.  Your friends will understand, and they’ll all be there when finals are over.

9. Gather important notes and resources.

Hopefully you’ve done a good job hanging onto important notes, handouts, and old tests over the course of the semester because these are the things you need now to help you study.  If you don’t have them all in one location, start gathering now.  And if that means you need to borrow them from classmates, or print off a huge number of PowerPoint slides from your professor’s website, do it.

8. Pay extra attention in class for helpful hints.

Your prof might mention whether this will be on the test, or whether you’ll need to remember the exact date that happened.  Stuff like this that gets mentioned in passing won’t be of any use to you if you’re zoning out, thinking about having Chipotle for lunch.

7. Talk to your classmates.

You can make great friends and tap into some awesome resources just by talking to the people around you. If you’re unclear about something the professor said, casually bring it up with a classmate.  (Not during class, but just before or after.)  Oftentimes, your classmates will be just as open to a little extra help as you are, and you can arrange a study session.

6. Find out if the professor is going to hold a study group.

If he is, go.  Seriously, you have to go.  Show up someplace after hours with a bunch of other kids in your class and just sit there and listen while the professor goes over all the important topics that will be on the final, the format of the questions, how many questions, and pretty much everything else you need to know.
