10 Ways The University of Colorado Wins, Even When We Lose (3)

6. Winter in the Rocky Mountains

Colorado has arguably the best skiing and snowboarding in all of America, and Boulder kids absolutely take advantage. Being only a few hours from prime mountains like Breckenridge, Vail, Keystone, Copper, and even Aspen, its hard to expect classes to be full at any point in the winter. Weekends crowded and expensive, and you’ll sit in traffic for hours, so it’s incredibly normal for students to play hooky for a killer powder day.

5. Speaking of the mountains… ever been to a Fraternity Formal in Aspen?

Once in the fall, and again in the spring, fraternities will virtually rent out an entire hotel in areas like Aspen, Vail, or Breckenridge, bring a date or two, fill up the car with booze, snacks, bathing suits, costumes, and a suit and throw the biggest weekend-long party imaginable. Formal is one of those things you share only selective details about with your mom because quite frankly, she can’t comprehend the debauchery that ensues at a frat formal, and she certainly doesn’t need to picture you slapping the bag on a strangers shoulders in the middle of the rowdiest pool party you’ve ever been to. Sure, other schools have fraternity formals, but nothing compares to formal in the mountains #sorrynotsorry.next
