11 Spinoff TV Shows You Don’t Remember (Or Don’t Want To) (3)

5.) The Lone Gunmen

The X files is on of the most well known American science fiction television shows to have come out, and is even rumored to have a new season on the way. In the show Scully and Mulder are often helped by a team of writers for a conspiracy theory magazine during investigations. These conspiracy theorists apparently went on to solve mysteries by themselves in The Lone Gunmen, although instead of dealing with aliens and paranormal activity, they dealt with government conspiracies, corporate crime, etc. Oddly enough the show actually got positive reviews but was canceled after only 13 episodes due to poor ratings.

4.) Buddies

If I told you that Dave Chappelle starred in a Home Improvement spinoff series, you would probably think I was lying just due to the shear randomness of the statement. Well, as random as it may seem that is exactly what the show Buddies was. After Dave Chappelle and Jim Breuer appeared on an episode of Home Improvement, network executives were so impressed with the duo, they decided to give them their own half hour sitcom series. Chapelle and Breuer were good friends outside of the show and had a natural comedic chemistry, but after many rehearsals it was decided that Breuer was to be replaced with Christopher Gartin. The comedic chemistry was gone and the series was canceled after only five episodes. Dave Chappelle is quoted as saying “It was a bad show. It was bad. I mean when we were doing it, I could tell this was not gonna work.”

3.) Law and Order: Trial By Jury

Law and Order is one of the few shows that can make as many spinoffs as they want and get away with it…except for Trial By Jury. People love tuning in to crime dramas week after week for the thrill of murder, mystery, and detective work, but at some point the shows creators decided it would be fun to make a series that revolved solely around the court trials. Boring! The show was canceled after one season.up-next-page
