15 Thoughts During My First Month of College (3)

9. “I’m Going to Join This Club, and That Team, and This Organization, and Those Committees, AND AND AND AND AND….” So to go along with my professional advice above, time management is key. You cannot do everything. As intriguing as Voice Acting sounds, you may not have time to do that with Club Soccer in your midst. Whatever you are interested in, whatever you decide to do, make sure you choose a path that matters to you or could benefit your future. It is impossible to be committed to multiple organizations all while working a part time job and taking classes. Try a few out your first month, but don’t run yourself down.

8. “Life Is SO Great.” This is true. Life is pretty great that first month (and after). College is great. Everything is just….great! Being away from home and experiencing new things independently is why they say college includes the best years of your life. I crap you not, I repeated the statement, “Life is so great,” ten thousand times in the beginning. And yes, life is still great, but before it was just something I said to the friends back home so they would believe I was living it up. The reality is, that while life was great, I never hit the more difficult aspects of life on the head. For awhile, I was in a small state of denial and wasn’t dealing with the problems and responsibilities I acquired since the move.

7. “I Have No Idea Where That Is…” So, living in a new place means getting lost frequently. It’s unavoidable, even with Google and Apple Maps. I can’t tell you how many times I was invited o go somewhere, and my response was ‘I have no idea where that is…’ Just know that it is completely alright to ask for directions, on campus or off. People understand that you’re new, or not new and just clueless. Everybody else around you is clueless too. Everyone else has had a time where they were lost, going someplace new, etc. If you get lost, just ask around, you shouldn’t get judged.
