15 Ways To Actually Get Work Done At The Library
Going to the library can be extremely productive if you know how make the most out of it. Here are 15 ways to actually get work done at the library.

Two things that are collegiate necessary evils: studying and the library.  As a central spot on any campus, lots of people enjoy going to the library to socialize or find a quiet corner to nap, but actually planting yourself a library table to get some studying done is another story.

However, if you do your best to focus and actually get work done, your time in the library will fly by a lot faster than if you just open a textbook and try to stare at it.  Follow these tips to make your time at the library less nightmarish and more productive.

15. Make it part of your routine.

If going to the library is a weekly thing, instead of a once-a-semester occurrence, you’ll be, shall we say “in practice” and knowledgeable about your own study habits.  It’ll help you be more productive.

14. Go anywhere but the main floor.

That’s where everyone goes when they’re popping by the library to have coffee with a friend or grab a bite to eat at the cafe.  If you actually want to get work done, go upstairs or downstairs to find a quieter area.

13. Avoid a desk with a view from the window.

Staring out the window = too distracting!

12. Try the stacks.

You know, the dank, dark places where they keep stacks and stacks and stacks of books.  I know sometimes people like to sneak back there for a quickie, but more often than not, the stacks are silent as a tomb.  There are usually desks in there and hardly anyone comes in to bother you.

11. Bring a friend who’s studying the same thing you are.

If you just bring a friend for no reason at all, you’ll probably end up chit chatting.  Bring a friend who can actually be a study buddy.  It really helps.

10. Bring a brain-boosting snack.

Some peanut butter and crackers, some carrot sticks, a handful of almonds…  Get a little bit of protein and you’ll feel more up to the task.  Starchy foods like pretzels and bread can make you sleepy, though.  Try to avoid those. next
