8 Ways to Refocus in Class When You’re Struggling to Stay Awake (2)

6. Fix your posture.
Sit up straight so that it’s harder to fall asleep. Here’s a trick – stick a rolled up towel or sweatshirt behind you, at the small of the back. Keep your butt back and straighten your upper body, squeezing your shoulders back a little. Keeping good posture is truly a workout and hopefully challenging yourself not to “shlump” will help you stay focused.

5. Take a walk – if you can!
It’s hard if you don’t want to miss material in class, but if your professor gives you a break – take a quick lap around the building and get yourself moving. Or just duck out quickly – gone are the dreaded days of high school and hall passes.
