Thank you for walking into my life during one of the scariest times ever– the first time leaving home and being in a place that I’ve never been before not knowing a single soul– and being my comfort blanket through it all. There’s no one else I could have awkwardly Facebook messaged, met up with at orientation, and hung out with before school even started without it being the most uncomfortable thing ever. There was just something about you that made me know for sure that we would be friends not only for the four years of college we had together but always, no matter what.
Thank you for being my home away from home
Being dropped off in a strange place for the first time is never easy, and even though you weren’t from back home, something about you always brought a sense of familiarity and homeyness when I was feeling homesick. You’ve visited my hometown and you’ve met my friends from back home so a part of you feels like home to me. You’ve been there from the start so in a sense, I found a home in you before I found a home at this school, and for that, you made the transition to college so much easier.
Thank you for not letting distance and new friends split us apart
With different majors, roommates, and extra-curricular activities, seeing you wasn’t always the most convenient thing ever. We were always on different time schedules, doing different things, hanging out with different people and not to mention that our hometowns are nowhere near close to one another. We basically had so many reasons to lose touch with one another, but we didn’t and I have faith that we never will.
Thank you for not judging me and always being a shoulder to cry on
I never have to second-guess whether or not I can trust you with a secret because I always know what we talk about stays between the two of us. You’ve never judged me or talked down to me. You’ve always uplifted and supported me, even if things weren’t easy. No matter how long we go without seeing each other or talking, I know that if I ever need anything, you’ll be there in a heartbeat with a warm hug and a shoulder to cry on.
Thank you for always saying what I need to hear even if it isn’t what I want to hear
Your honesty and bluntness is one of the things I value most in our friendship because I know that if I need a real, honest opinion, you’re there to tell me how it is. If I’m making stupid decisions or letting someone treat me like crap, you’re the first person who points it out without blinking an eye. It may not always be what I want to hear and I may disagree at the time, but you always have my best interest at heart and deep down I know that you’re right.
Thank you for literally reading my mind
We could be talking about anything– my family, a disappointment, our friends, an ex, or any situation you can think of– and even if I don’t disclose absolutely every detail or every feeling I have towards the subject, you already know what I’m thinking about it. Hiding things from you is probably one of the most difficult things ever because you can read me like a book. If I play something off like it doesn’t hurt me, you somehow find the sadness in my smile. You can finish my sentences sometimes better than I can, and honestly, it’s beginning to get a little creepy.
Thank you for loving my mom almost as much as I do
This is an important one. I think you talk to my mom more than you talk to me sometimes, and I genuinely love it. Whenever I get texts from my mom saying, “Guess who texted me the sweetest message today!” I always know it was you because you love her as if you were her daughter too. I mean you basically are, so. Having you here at school with me gives my mom peace of mind because she knows I’ll always be taken care of in a time of need when she can’t be here, and she loves you for that.
Thank you for always checking to make sure I’m okay
You checking up on me every once and awhile to see how I’m doing and if I need anything means more than you could ever know. You’re one of the only people who is never fooled when I say I’m okay and I’m not, and you are always somehow able to find a way to make it all better again.
Thank you for being able to always pick up right where we left off every time we talk
Although we don’t see each other as often as we would like sometimes, every time we do talk, it’s like no time has even passed at all. Updating each other on our lives just seems so natural because we always have new things to talk about and the latest drama to share. Some friends suffer uncomfortable silences, but with us, there are no silences, period. We can talk for hours on end and pick up right where we left off last time.
Thank you for always reminding me that I’m worth it and that everything will be okay
Whenever I’m feeling helpless and down, you’re always there to pick me back up and reassure me that I’ll be okay. Thank you for seeing me for who I really am and never giving up on me. So here’s to another two years together! From the beginning to the end.
