George Mason Student Shares His Awe Inspiring Story That Will Change Your Perspective On Life.

Personally, I have always looked up to Mihir Bhojani. Not only is he a great friend to me, he is also my teammate and a big brother figure. He has always looked out for me and embodies many great qualities. He dances, sings, and DJ’s. Call him a triple threat! I recently got to know him in a different light and he just inspires me even more now. This is HIS story.

This country never leaves the opportunity to make immigrants feel like outsiders. I have been in this country for over seven years now. I went to high school here and I talk like an American, yet every year I have to worry about my Visa situation. Once I turn 21, my immigrant status cannot be dependent on my dad’s status. This means that I would have to revert to a student visa, which would mean triple the amount I would have to pay for tuition. A question, which constantly looms over my head, is whether or not I will be able to finish my studies. I already put so much financial pressure on my dad, since I’m not even allowed to work, and because of this issue I had to finish my entire B.S. degree in IT within 3 years. People are still surprised when I tell them I’m about to graduate and I’m only 20 years old. They either think I’m some sort of nerd or genius, but there’s not much you can do when you only have one option left. Needless to say, my college life has been pretty stressful. I’ve never had a semesters filled with anything less than 18-21 credits. When my group of friends were enjoying their summer vacation, I was taking 4 classes just to finish. Living like this, one could easily get depressed or fall behind, but I found the escape in the little things. For example, my dance team, Mason Ke Rang, played a huge role in that. I wouldn’t have survived my undergraduate years if it weren’t for them. Other things, like singing, DJ’ing, and photography, also helped me. That joy you get when someone admires your art isn’t even close to getting an A+ in a difficult class.
