How to Break the Ice With Your New Roommates

9. Honesty is the best policy. The best way to get your roommate’s trust and approval is being 100% honest about everything. If they ask you what time you fall asleep at night, don’t lie and say 10:00 when you know darn well you’ll most likely be up until at least midnight on any given night. Be honest about taking their last bit of coffee creamer, using their deodorant when you ran out of your own, and about getting drunk and puking in the corner the night before. They may not always like what you have to say, but knowing that you’ll always be honest to them means more than anything.

10. Include them in your plans with your friends. If you notice that they’re laying in their beds around dinnertime and you’re planning on going to the dining hall with your friends down the hall, ask your roommates to tag along! A good ice breaker is when your roommates and friends feel comfortable around each other and everyone feels included. It may be awkward at first to blend your friend groups, but your roommates will definitely appreciate your kindness ad thoughtfulness to include them.
