Self Objectification
Self objectification is another personality quirk that can be linked to selfies. Self objectification is the tendency to view your body as an object, and base your self worth on your sex appeal. It probably doesn’t come as a surprise that self objectification and selfie editing are linked to one another. What may surprise you, however, is the fact that the amount of selfies someone posts does not seem to be positively correlated to self objectification; this is because self objectification has to do with low self esteem, and those with low self esteem are not likely to post a large number of selfies. Beautyredefined.net has coined the term “selfie objectification” to describe the phenomenon, and according to them, those who are guilty of this often take selfies using the following three steps: Capturing and scrutinizing multiple photos from various angles, followed by ranking, editing, and selecting a winner, and finally sharing and monitoring said picture for likes and comments.
