UMD Set To Unveil Star Spangled Uniforms

The University of Maryland, College Park, plays WVU this weekend in football and it also happens to be the 200th anniversary of the Star Spangled Banner. For those of you who don’t already know, the Star Spangled Banner was written in Maryland and still holds great pride to this day.

On behalf of the anniversary, UMD alum and Under Amour founder, Kevin Plank, created a new jersey that will be worn this Saturday which includes the script to Scott Key’s poem “Defense of Fort McHenry” and the players will also wear red belts just as the military captains did during the battle of Baltimore. Lastly, the names on the back of all of the jerseys will be replaced by the word ‘Triumph.’

It’s safe to this that this tribute to such a staple in history will be one for the books and will only push the terps to have a triumph of their own when hopefully defeating WVU on Saturday.

In addition, UMD has given Under Armour another contract lasting for the next 10 years, to which I’m sure many more great jersey’s will come.

Go terps!
