10 Struggles of Explaining Greek Life to Non Greeks

Last year BuzzFeed made a video titled 29 Things Sorority Girls Are Tired Of Hearing and we couldn’t agree with it more! We totally understand that when you’re not a member of Greek Life it’s a confusing process (so many things had to be explained during our own recruitment), but sometimes we forget because we’ve become so used to the ins and outs of going Greek. If you’ve ever told a joke and had to explain it (which kills the funniness of it) then you’ll understand what it’s like to try and explain these 10 aspects of Greek Life to non-Greeks.

10. The Greek alphabet The Greek alphabet, to put it simply, is how every organization identifies themselves, such as “Phi Sigma Sigma” or “Sigma Alpha Epsilon”. Each pairing of Greek letters is unique to every Greek organization, but no matter how many times you try to explain it, they still think “phi” is just a circle with an “I” through the middle.
