20 Things I Have Learned From My Lovely Southern Roommate (3)

9.) Some kids want to be astronauts when they grow up, other’s want to be investment bankers.

While walking on the beach with her dad as a kid, Colby wanted to know the professions of the people who owned the gorgeous lake houses. Her dad made an educated guess that they were investment bankers, and for a while baby Colby deemed that her dream job. Doesn’t really have to do with the South, but I think this is an awesome anecdote.

8.) Southern hospitality is a thing.

I thought that Southern hospitality was a myth, but I learned that phrases like, “yes, Sir,” and, “yes, Ma’am,” are used rather frequently in the South.

7.) What it was like to be popular (and not a bitch) in high school.

Speaking of Southern hospitality, my roommate was all about it, and by that I mean she hosted really sick parties in high school. Southern girls know how to throw down, as I have learned from my roommate.

6.) What the phrase “like Mother, like Daughter” really means.

On Mom’s weekend, I learned what it is like to look at one person (my roommate) and then look at somebody else and know exactly what they will look like in the future (my roommate’s Mom.) Doesn’t really have to do with the South, I just was floored by the uncanny resemblance – which is weird, because I should expect a mother-daughter duo to look alike.
