For those students who don’t have a city nearby to save them during the break, here are some tips for surviving the weeks back at home:
The best way to avoid getting bored at home is to not go home, or not stay the whole time. Your school probably offers lots of opportunities during the break. Educational trips, working at school, winter classes, volunteering… Look into the options that could take you back to campus or on a trip elsewhere during winter break.
Yes, it’s a pain in the butt that they need to know where you are all the time when you’ve been living on your own timeframe for months now. But your parents just want to feel like they can still take care of their kid. Stay home some nights and tell them about your semester. Let them be involved in your life, because they can’t be when you go back. Besides, you won’t win the curfew fight, so just accept it and be happy you have loving parents to go home to.

You’ll get sick of them if you spend too much time together, but as you’re getting older, you’ll soon start to appreciate your siblings more. Especially during holiday celebrations. Bond over some wine or beer, or just stay up late and talk honestly about your lives. Whether they’re older or younger, you might be surprised by how good their advice is (says an older sister).
Not the most exciting activity, I know, but you could probably use the extra cash, right? If you’ve got nothing else to do anyway…

When was the last time you read a book of your choice? Now’s your chance. Pick something fun, a novel, short story, one of those young adult books they’re turning into a movie this year. Remind yourself that reading can be entertaining.
